Planting is progressing well across the state as I am writing this. The markets are reflecting the planting pace and at the moment it appears that an increase in the carry out as well. Time will tell if the current assumptions are correct or not. In the old crop, the market is telling us to move the crop now. Both corn and bean markets reflect this currently. United Cooperative is looking forward to bringing our Center Valley location on very soon. The rail yard is getting very close to completion and we look forward to the opportunities that loading 110 car units will bring to the area. Ripon South’s rail project will also be completed later this summer and will allow United more flexibility in loading our 110 car co-load program as it will bring us an additional 50 car location with weights to originate from. Finally we are excited to the completion of the Waupun grain location that will allow the receiving of beans this fall. Contact us for more information on bean bids delivered to our Waupun location as we will have the ability to receive in excess of two million bushels of beans at that location this fall.
United Cooperative has also gone to great lengths to ensure our grain-receiving facilities are in the right locations for the majority of our member-owners. We keep our handling and storage equipment clean and in good working order to minimize hiccups during the critical fall harvest season. We offer extended grain delivery hours and extra help to keep our local harvest rolling, including the transformation of the Boscobel location. All the earthworks are finished, and a new track to handle 115 car units is currently being installed. Two new 30,000 bushel-per-hour load-out legs are installed, and three of the four new grain tanks have been erected. Boscobel will start loading BNSF unit trains starting July 1, 2023. Ripon South has had three of the large bins rebuilt from the storm of 2021, and we’re planning to add additional permanent storage to the site this summer.
