Farming and other commercial businesses require a steady, dependable supply of diesel fuel and gasoline
Cooperatives sell energy for the same reasons they sell feed, seed and fertilizer: to ensure their members have access to the inputs and services they need to run their businesses. United Cooperative purchases propane, diesel fuel, gasoline and lubricants from Cenex, which is itself part of a farmer-owned cooperative with its own refineries in Kansas and Montana. The ability to refine petroleum is a huge advantage for Cenex and for our member-owners. It helps ensure a steady, dependable supply of fuel for our customers regardless of geopolitical events or product shortages. Fuel and propane purchases are also eligible for patronage, or return of capital to our members.
Propane, also known as liquified petroleum gas (LP), is an American-made fuel that is used to power vehicles, grain dryers, irrigation engines, building/water heating, and standby generation. As a Cenex propane partner, United Cooperative provides quality propane that’s clean, efficient, reliable and affordable. Farm and business owners can count on this environmentally friendly, low-carbon fuel to meet their energy needs. If you’ve ever run out of propane, you know how much it can derail your day. An empty tank can stop your grain drying right in its tracks, can cause a pipe to freeze and burst, or can even create leaks in or damage to your propane system. United Cooperative now offers propane tank monitors with a convenient mobile app for a small monthly fee. Propane tank monitors can help eliminate the likelihood of an empty tank. Plus, tank monitors create efficiencies and increase the safety of propane systems, whether it’s for your home or your entire operation.
