From Nutrition to Delivery: United Cooperative Has You Covered

May 22, 2025

The feed industry is ever evolving. New technologies and processes enter the industry daily, changing manufacturing processes and feed products. The feed department at United Cooperative offers many ways for our patrons to adapt and evolve with this industry and changes in agriculture and livestock production.

The United Cooperative feed employee team is diverse. The sales specialist team offers expertise in many fields, from young animal nutrition to forage preservation. On-farm audits of different calibers, varying by life stage and species or forage, are available for United Cooperative customers. Audits evaluate many aspects beyond nutrition to assess all influences on performance. The feed location teams consist of personnel who enter formulas, manage inventories, operate advanced technology controls of manufacturing, maintain complex equipment, and deliver feed safely to farms. The procurement and pricing team offers risk management tools, including but not limited to ingredient contracting and strike pricing. The feed team provides many tools and services to meet the industry's expectations.

Advancements in technologies surround the agricultural industry, including feed manufacturing. The five feed manufacturing locations for United Cooperative are continually assessed for efficiency and equipment improvements to remain competitive in this advanced market. Mill locations within the feed department can access different feed forms, like pelleted feeds or steam-flaked corn, manufactured in the United Cooperative system. The mills have ingredient micro-systems that allow for precise delivery of small inclusion vitamins, minerals, and additives in minerals or other finished feed products. Manufacturing equipment can also clean finished products to ensure product quality and animal acceptance, like calf feeds, before applying liquid applications. Later in 2025, soy-processing will also be operational and offering a rumen by-pass protein product.

Once products are manufactured, the United Team has a complete line of delivery trucks to fit the farm, from bag delivery units with self-contained forklifts to auger or belt trailers for bulk delivery. As product needs change, equipment will also be available through United Cooperative. Dry bulk bins and liquid feed equipment, including replacement parts, are available for order and purchase. Up-to-date equipment on-farm improves delivery efficiency and reduces feed shrinkage and cost.

The Feed Team at United Cooperative is dedicated to finding solutions for our patrons’ farms and facilities. Continued advancements in the feed department allow United to efficiently supply the animal nutrition products for today’s animal agriculture landscape. United Cooperative is proud to offer many ways to support our patrons and their endeavors.

As we begin another busy “Spring Season,” an essential business practice for your cooperative is to review customer accounts that have unpaid amounts 60 days or more past due.

Thank you to patron members who have taken advantage of input finance options or bank loans to prepay for products and services. There are enough issues with weather, machinery breakdowns, and other factors, and you won’t have to worry about how to pay for items needed, as you are well prepared.

The grain market in the Upper Midwest as of May 2026 is characterized as a period of volatility.  Corn futures are currently following a classic seasonal pattern.  Harvest lows were set in late October reflecting a large US corn crop, harvest pressure and farmer selling. Physical supply simply overwhelmed near-term demand during this time.

With summer just around the corner, now is the time to plan your propane supply for next winter’s heating needs. The most recent winter brought average to below-average temperatures and saw strong demand for propane. Propane exports are still up and will affect supply moving forward; over the past year, over 64% of our country’s propane was exported, mainly to distant countries in the far east, for the production of plastics.
