Sauk City Feed & Grain

We wanted to share with you an update on our Sauk City Bean Elevator Expansion Project. The project consists of installing a new 1000-bushel receiving pit connected to a 15,000-bushel-per-hour receiving leg. It also adds 521,000 bushels of storage capacity, bringing the total available bean storage space to 830,000 bushels, up from 309,000 bushels. The pit alone is 10 times the capacity of the old pit, and the receiving leg is three times the capacity of the old leg. Dump time will be reduced dramatically from what our previous facility could handle. The new system will allow us to unload and load trucks in less than a minute. This will give you very fast dump times, and as we all know, time is very valuable during the harvest season. This has been one of our biggest issues in the past. We are very happy that this project will soon resolve that issue. 

Today, the concrete work for the pit is finished. The conveyor and pit are being installed, and the tower and leg have been erected. The new electrical room is constructed, and the electricians are on site installing conduit and electrical components for the equipment. Our goal is to have the facility ready for receiving by September 15^th. That date is not far away, and if the project is delayed, we do have a backup plan: use the corn receiving to place beans in the south bin on the corn side. The good news is that this means this system can receive at 15,000 bushels per hour as well. Once the new bean system is complete, we would reclaim the bean bushels from that bin at night so the bin can be used during corn harvest.
